FUR TEXT

This tutorial will have you seeing Mink in no time!

1.) Create a New file, 800 X 600 pixels at 225 ppi on a white background. Press D on the keyboard to set the Foreground color to black.

2.) Select the Horizontal Type tool . I used Arial Black 120pt Smooth. (In the Options bar, type in 120 at the input box for pt Size.) Now, click on the work area and type your text.

In the Tool palette, select the Move tool and Click+Drag text to center.

3.) Go to Window > Styles to open the Styles palette (if not visible). In the Styles palette... find the style named Fur and click on it to apply. Go to Step 4.

(Alternately, you may apply settings manually by following Steps 3a and 3b below.)
3a.) Next, Click on the Add a layer style button (located bottom of Layers Palette). When the pop-out appears, click on Pattern Overlay. The Layer Style palette will open. Click the downward triangle next to the pattern window to open the Pattern-Picker. Now, click the triangle at the top right corner and a pop-out menu will appear. Select KS Fur. A message box will appear, just click OK and the correct library will load. Keep this palette up for the next few steps.

Once the library loads... Locate the pattern named Calico and click on it to Select.

3b.) Click the Drop Shadow tab. Just go with the default settings below, then click the OK button to close the Layer Style palette and check your results.

4.) Here is what the image should be looking like.

Go to Layer > Rasterize > Type. Select the Brush tool , then carry the brush over the work area and Right-Click to bring up the Brush-Picker. Click the triangle at the top right corner and a pop-out menu will appear. Select the KS Fur UBrush set. (This set is Copyright by it's creator "Wynd"). A message box will appear. just click OK and the new library will load.

Use the scroll bar on the right to find the 95px sets and click on one to select your brush. Now, click Enter on the keyboard to close the Picker.

Go to the canvas now and start clicking along the Inside edge of Text. Like magic, the brush will use effects to this layer as you paint! You will have to click several times to create depth. Also change Brushes and Diameters if needed.

TIP: Remember now, to go to the Brush-Picker, just Right-Click on the work area and the Brush-Picker will open! Press Enter on the keyboard to close.

That's all there is to it. When you are finished, you can click here to compare your work.

Here's another variation... Once you have a finished image, go to the Layers palette, under the Effects bar, Double-Click on Pattern Overlay. This will open the Style palette displaying the Fur pattern once again. Click the downward triangle next to the Pattern window to open the Pattern-Picker. Just click a different Pattern to make the change. I used Jaguar for this image below.
