METAL FLAKE TEXT

In this Tutorial, I will show you how to create both Styles below.
 
 
1.) Create a New file, 800 X 600 pixels at 225 ppi. Press D on the keyboard to set the Foreground color to black. Now, press Alt+Backspace to fill the Background layer with black.
 
2.) Press X on the keyboard to switch the Foreground color to white. Select the Horizontal Type tool and select some fancy bold type for your text. I used Xanadu Regular 72pt Smooth.
 
 

3.) In the Tool palette... select the Move tool to commit, then Click+Drag on text to reposition if needed.

 
4.) Go to Window > Styles to open the Styles palette (if not visible.) In the Styles palette... find the style named Metal and click on it to apply effects. Go to Step 5.
 
(Alternately, you may apply settings manually by following Steps 4a thru 4h below.)
4a.) Next, Click on the Add a layer style button (located bottom of Layers Palette). When the pop-out appears, click on Color Overlay... and the Layer Style palette will open. Click the color well and when the Color-Picker appears, enter #9900CC at the bottom input box then click OK to close. Also adjust Opacity to 19%. Click the OK button to close this palette.
 
 

Now, in the Layers palette... click on the arrow next to Fill and adjust opacity to 80%.

 
 
 
4b.) Now, Click on the Add a layer style button again. When the pop-out appears, click on Inner Shadow... and the Layer Style palette will open. Click the color well and when the Color-Picker appears, enter #663399 at the bottom input box then click OK to close. Follow settings below. Keep this palette open for the next few steps.
 
 
 
4c.) Next, click the Drop Shadow tab. Click the color well and when the Color-Picker appears, enter #CCFFFF at the bottom input box then click OK to close. Next, click the downward triangle next to the Contour window to open the Contour-Picker. Find the Contour named Cone - Inverted and click on it to select. Finish with settings below.
 
 

4d.) Next, Click the Inner Glow tab. Click the color well and when the Color-Picker appears, enter #336699 at the bottom input box then click OK to close. Adjust to settings below.

 
 
 
4e.) Now, click the Bevel and Emboss tab. Click the first color well and when the Color-Picker appears, enter #FFCCFF at the bottom input box then click OK to close. Click the second color well and when the Color-Picker appears, enter #CCCCCC at the bottom input box then click OK to close. Click the downward triangle next to the Gloss Contour window to open the Contour-Picker. Find the contour named Metalflake1 then click on it to select. Adjust settings below.
 
 
4f.) Under the Bevel and Emboss tab- Click the Contour tab. Click the downward triangle next to the Contour window to open the Contour-Picker. Find the contour named Metalflake2 and click on it to select. Press enter on the keyboard to close the library. Adjust Range to 88%.
 
 
At this point your text should now become well defined.
 
 
4g.) Now, click the Pattern Overlay tab. Click the downward triangle next to the Pattern window to open the Pattern-Picker. Select the pattern named Metalflake. (If the library is different than the image below, click the triangle at the top right corner and a pop-out will appear. Select KS Patterns. A message box will appear, just click OK and the correct library will load.)
 
 
4h.) Next, click the Satin tab. Click the color well and when the Color-Picker appears, enter #CC66FF at the bottom input box then click OK to close. Next, click the downward triangle to open the Contour-Picker. Find the contour named Cone - Inverted and click on it to select. Adjust settings below, then click the OK button to close the Layer Style palette.
 
 
5.) In the Layers palette... Ctrl+Click on the Type layer to create a Selection.
 
 
At the Bottom of the Layers palette, click the Create a new layer button to add a new blank layer. Now, go to Edit > Fill. The Fill panel will open. Be sure Foreground is selected and Opacity is 100%, then click OK to apply. Press Ctrl+D to Deselect Selection.
 
6.) In the Layers palette... Click the Opacity arrow to open the slider and adjust Down to 5%.
