BACKSCREENING EFFECT

This effect can create some dazzling images for print as well as a great splash page for any multimedia project.

1.) Launch Photoshop, then open a background image of your choice. (To save this image, Right-Click and Save Picture as...)

2.) Go to Layer > New Layer. When the dialog box appears, simply name this layer Backscreen, then click OK and a New blank layer will be generated.

3.) Select the Rectangular Marquee tool . Click on the work area and create a selection where you would like to place Type.

Now, press the letter D, then the letter X. (This will set the foreground color to white.) Next, press Alt+Backspace to fill the selection, then Deselect Selection by pressing Ctrl+D.

4.) Top of the Layers palette, there is a opacity adjustment. Click on arrow to open Opacity Slider and make your adjustment. (I used 60%.)

Here is the image with the adjustment applied...(Idea is too give the cell a level of Transparency on which to Type our Text).

5.) Press D to change Foreground Color to Black. Select the Horizontal Type tool and type the Text. (I used the font Allegro 100 pt Sharp) but any fonts will do.

6.) Last step, finish effect by adding a Drop Shadow. In the Layers palette, select Backscreen layer, then Go to Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow. (When the Layer Style palette appears, simply adjust Angle to 135 degrees, then click OK to apply.)

Now, close your eyes and imagine ...meet you in paradise.
