COLOR DYNAMICS

Select the Color Dynamics bar to Open it's controls.

Variations of these controls will alter the Foreground/Background colors chosen to work with. (For the examples below, Scattering was set to 185%.)

Foreground/Background Jitter... Controls the blend of the Foreground and Background Colors.
A setting of 0% paints with a solid Foreground Color.

Foreground/Background Jitter 0%

A setting of 100% paints a mix of 50% Foreground and 50% Background Colors.

Foreground/Background Jitter 100%

Hue Jitter... Controls number of Hues used from the Color wheel.
A low setting here will produce paint close to the Foreground Color. As the percentage is increased, more Hues of the Color wheel are introduced.

Hue Jitter 100%

Saturation and Brightness Jitter... Controls the Saturation and Brightness values to the Stroke.

Saturation Jitter 100%

Purity... In combination with the Saturation and Brightness sliders fine tunes or restricts the Effects of Saturation.

Saturation Jitter 100%, Brightness Jitter 100%, Purity 50%

Control... This additional setting set to Fade allows the user to set the number of instances to be repeated prior to Color shift.

Fade 50

Variations of All of these sliders determine the finished result.

Lets go ahead and Create an image of a Christmas tree.

1.) Press D, then X on the keyboard to set the Background Color to Black. Create a New file. Go to File > New. Make it 500 X 500 pixels on at 300 dpi on Background Color.

2.) Click the Background Color swatch to launch the Color-Picker. Enter #00FF00 at the Bottom input box, then click OK to apply. Click the Foreground Color swatch and change it's Color to #CC00FF.

3.) Select the Polygonal Lasso tool . Go to the work area and Click and Drag to Create a diagonal line. Continue to Click and Drag until you reach the beginning point, then click to Create a triangle Selection.

4.) Select the Brush tool . Right-Click on the work area to Open the Brush-Picker. Click the blue arrow (Top Right corner) and a pop-out menu will appear. Select SD-Stars. A dialog box will appear, just click OK and the correct library will load. Select the Star 35 brush, then click Enter on the keyboard to close.

Next, click the Brushes tab (located Top Right of program) to Open the perimeters panel. Click the Scattering bar and check the Both Axes box. Now, adjust Scatter to 185%. Click the Color Dynamics bar and adjust the Hue Jitter slider to 100%. Click and Drag across Selection to Fill, then use Ctrl+D to Deselect Selection when finished. (The brush will only paint Inside the Selection while it is active.)

5.) With the Selection now OFF, we can paint the Outer edges of the image. Click and Drag in an arc to Fill the Bottom of the tree, then add a little Fill along the sides to add still more dimension and pizzazz. (If you make a mistake painting, press Ctrl+Z to undo last Step.)

6.) Let's add a Star at the top of our tree. To do this, we'll run a Filter to add a New dazzling Effect! Go to Filter > Render > Lens Flare. Select the 35 mm lens, then click Inside the Display window to place location at the Top of the tree. Adjust the Brightness slider to 80%, then Click OK to apply.

Image is now completed. Here is the finished results. (You could run another Filter at this point to Sharpen the image a bit. Just go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen Edges, however, I decided to leave it a bit soft.)

Here's yet another example. I set the Foreground Color to #009900, then changed the Brush perimeters to only Saturation and Brightness Jitter at 100% and Created the same way.
