DUAL BRUSH

This option allows the user to paint with two brush tips simultaneously. The controls here are quite powerful and can be used as a Texturing platform as well as a Shaping one.

Setting up a Dual brush is easy. (Follow along as I show you a simple example.)

1.) Create a New Document. Go to File > New. Make it 600 X 600 pixels at 72 dpi in RGB mode on a White Background. Now press D on the keyboard to set the Foreground Color to Black.

2.) Select the Brush tool . Click the arrow located in the Top Brushes tab. A pop-up menu will appear, Select the Reset Brushes. A dialog box will appear, just click OK and the correct library will load. (This is the default set and we will use it to create the first brush.)

3.) Select the Brush Tip Shape pane to Open it's controls, then Select the brush named Scattered Maple Leaves. (You will have to scroll down to find it.) Now, go to Spacing and set to 50%. (This will be the primary brush.)

4.) Next, Select the Dual Brush pane to Open it's set of controls. Let's change the Brush Library again. Click the arrow located in the Top Brushes tab. A pop-up menu will appear, Select the Special Effect Brushes. A dialog box will appear, just click OK and the correct library will load.

Select the brush named Ducks Not in a Row, then adjust Mode to Multiply, Diameter to 75 px, Spacing to 80% and Count to 2 as shown. (This will be the Secondary brush.)

Now, that both brushes have been created, you can switch easily between the two (Primary or Primary+Secondary) simply by clicking the box located in the Dual Brush tab .

Try it out by going to the work area now and painting the two Strokes as shown below.

In this way, (with Dual Brush Selected) the wreath was easily generated simply by Selecting a New Foreground Color, then painting a circle and releasing the brush, then painting another circle slightly inside center of the first.

The Controls
Diameter - Sets the size of the Secondary brush.

Spacing - Spreads the instances of the brush.

Adjusting Diameter to 30%, then adjusting Spacing (for the Second Stroke) to 130% produced these two results.

Simply making adjustments to Size can control Shape in this fashion.

Scatter - Spreads the instances of the brush perpendicular to the Stroke.
Count - Adds density. Each progressive setting has the effect as stacking slides.
