PHOTO BRUSH

We'll Start by Vignetting an image, turn it into a brush and then Create a keep sake image that has an aged old look.

1.) Open a photo of a loved one. I Selected a photo of my brother Gary. Crop it (if necessary) to leave only the subject in place. Now Resize it by going to Edit > Resize. I resized my photo to 225 X 300 pixels (visualizing the brush size before hand). There he is, that's him!

2.) Next, go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. (This removes the Color from the image.)

3.) The image looking a little Dark and flat (lacking Highlights and Shadows) we go to Edit > Levels to make an adjustment. The Upper sliders represent from Left to Right Shadow, Midtone and Highlights. The Lower sliders control overall brightness, Play around with them until you get improved results as shown below.

4.) Now, hold down the Shift key and press M until the Elliptical Marquee tool becomes Selected. Drag out a circular shape as I have done. (Once the Selection is created you can place curser Inside Selection and Move to position.)

5.) Go to Select > Feather. A dialog box will appear, enter a value. (The higher the number, the further the softening into the image Inside the circle will occur.)

Next, go to Select > Inverse. (This reverses the Selection and allows the Next Step to Fill from the Outside in.)

6.) Press D, then X on the keyboard to set the Foreground Color to White. Now, press Alt+Backspace to Fill. Repeat process until you get a good washout on the Outer edges of the circle.

When you are pleased with the results, use Ctrl+D to Deselect Selection.

7.) Time to Create the brush. Go to Edit > Define Brush Preset. Name it as you wish, then click OK to Create.

The New Brush Preset will be included into the present library and added at the end. Now, let's test the New brush out and give it an aged appearance at the same time.

8.) Go to Layer > New > layer. A dialog box will appear, name this layer Sepia Toned and click OK to Create. Press Alt+Backspace to Fill with White.

9.) Next, click the Foreground Color swatch and the Color-Picker will Open. Enter #663300 at the Bottom input box, then click OK to apply.

10.) Select the Brush tool . Position the curser over the work area and Right-Click to Open the Brush Library. Scroll down to find it at the end, then Double-Click it to Select and Close the library. Position the brush over the Center of the work area and click once to stamp the image. And there you have it... a aged Vinetted photo of your loved one ready to be saved and emailed to all your relatives!
