Clicking the Texture
tab on the Left of the Brushes palette exposes the Texture and Pattern
controls.
Choosing a Texture
Once activated, the Pattern preview
window becomes available and Active. Click the Downward triangle
to the Right of it to Open the pattern Library. Now, simply click
on a pattern to apply to the brush.
The Scale slider adjusts
Size of the Pattern to be applied to the brush. The below examples
uses a Soft Round 60 pixels brush set at 50% Spacing (Brush
Tip Shape) pane.
Now, let's turn on the Texture controls
and add some Scaling effects. With the Depth slider at 100%, look
at what happens to the Stroke with the Scaling slider adjusted to
25%, 50% and 100%.
Invert
box Inverts the Pattern. (A complete reversal can at times have
dramatic effects!)
Depth
slider is used to regulate Depth to Pattern. (Inverted with Slider
at 100% and 75%.)
Mode Drop down
The Blending Mode options offer differences
in the way Color interacts in the brush. Click here for specific
definitions to it's available choices.
Here are some samples to illustrate
what can be accomplished using the various Blend Modes
in combination with the Depth slider. These brushes presented by

Texture Each Tip
Checking this box applies the Pattern
individually to each instance of the brush. Unchecked, it will apply
the Pattern to the brush as a whole.
With the Texture Each Tip
box checked, you will notice that the rest of the controls to the
pane become active such as Minimum Depth and Depth
Jitter.
Minimum Depth can
be used to fine tune the Depthslider, while Depth
Jitter like All Jitters add a Randomizing effect.
