UNDERSTANDING THE BRUSHES PALETTE

With a Paint tool Selected, this is where you go to access Photoshop's Paint Engine Controls.

The Brushes palette is Opened and Closed by (F5) or by use of the Toggle button . This can also be accomplished by clicking the Brushes tab . Clicking the White triangle on the tab will Open a pop-up menu as displayed on the Left.

Let's first take a look at the Pop-up menu. This menu is categorized into 8 main sections. Selections made in the Brushes palette determine what is available in the pop-out menu at any given time.

Section 1
Expanded View... Opens and Closes the perimeter tabs to the Left of the Brush preview pane.

Section 2
New Brush Preset... This handy Selection allows the user to Create New Brushes from pre-existing ones in the palette by changing the characteristics using the various perimeter tabs and controls.

Section 3
The Selections available here basically turn ON or OFF preset Controls.

Section 4
Once a Brush is Selected... these Selections allow the user to Rename or Delete the Brush from the Library.

Section 5
This is where you go to change how the brushes will be displayed in the preview pane.

Section 6
Preset Manager... (*See Preset Manager defined in the Help Index.)

Section 7
Reset Brushes... restores Default library set.
Load Brushes... allows the user to ADD additional whole library sets to present library.
Save brushes... allows the user to SAVE Created sets.
Replace Brushes... allows the user to swap out Library sets.

Section 8
Displays All installed brush libraries for easy access.

The Left panel to the Brushes palette can be be explained easily by separating it into two sections, we'll define as Top and Bottom.

The Top section contains tabs that allow the user to access Control panels to the various categories listed. Clicking on the name to a tab Opens the Controls.

The Bottom section has standard presets that can be applied. Simply Checking a box here will apply the presets effects to the currently Selected tool. Unchecking any box will remove it's effects from the tool.

In Addition... The Brush Presets Selection allows the user the ability to Select Brushes from the panel on the Right.

The Master Diameter slider (Bottom of palette) allows the user to alter any Selected brushes size.
