WHIMSICAL DESIGNS

Nature has it's own set of principles to be defined for realistic painting, however, there may be times when the desired effect may require something Whimsical.

The Technique used in this Tutorial is a unique one and I call it "Painting with the Erasure". How do you paint with an Erasure you Say? Read on...

The Brushes used in this Tutorial are NOT installed from this CD, however, You will find a link to them located in my (*Valuable Links) menu. You may however, subsitute any image brush of your choosing for this tutorial.

1.) Create a New Document, then press D on the keyboard to set the Foreground/Background Colors to their default.

2.) Click the Create a new layer button (located Bottom) of the Layers palette to generate a New blank layer.

3.) Select the Brush tool . Carry the brush over the work area and Right-Click to Open the Brush-Picker. (Change the library to the set you will be working with.) Or...Click the blue arrow (located Top Right corner) and a pop-out menu will appear. I Selected ekrcreepytrees. A dialog box will appear, just click OK and the correct library will load. Select a brush to use. (If your using the same library as me, adjust the Master Diameter to 500 px, then you can click the blue bar (Top of program) to Close the library. Click once to deposit the image, then press V to Select the Move tool , You can then Drag the image to position as needed.

4.) Go to Layer > Layer Style > Pattern Overlay. When the Layer Style palette appears, click the Downward triangle (next to the pattern preview window) to Open it's library. Select a Pattern, then click OK to apply.

5.) Next, go to Layer > Duplicate layer. When the dialog box appears, just click OK and a Duplicate will be Created. Now, Repeat Step 4 for this layer and Select a different Pattern. (The two images below will actually be stacked, they were separated merely for viewing purposes.)

6.) Select the Erasure tool and Right-Click on the work area to Open the Brush-Picker. Click the blue arrow and the pop-out menu will appear. Select Reset Brushes. A dialog box will appear, just click OK and the correct library will load. Select the Soft Round 27 pixels brush and start painting the second Pattern into the image until you are pleased with the results. (Actually, the Erasure is removing Pattern 2 revealing Pattern 1 below.)
