ROPE TEXT ANIMATION

This Tutorial uses an Old Hollywood technique used to create Cels one by one.

1.) Open Photoshop. Create a New file. Go to File > New. Make it 400 X 125 pixels on a White Background at 72 dpi, then click OK to Create.

2.) In the Tool palette, click the Foreground Color well to launch the Color-Picker.

Select a color or simply type in #FFCC99 at the Bottom input box to select the color I used, then click OK to apply.

3.) Go to Layer > New > Layer. A dialog box will appear. Name this layer Rope, then click the OK button to Create.

4.) Select the Brush tool . Go to the Options bar and click the Downward triangle next to the Brush Preview window to Open the Brush Library. Select the Airbrush Hard Round 13 brush.
(If the library is different than the one shown, click the blue arrow at the Top Right and a pop-up menu will appear. Select Reset Brushes. A dialog box will appear, just click OK and the correct library will load.)

5.) Next, click the Brushes tab located at the Top Right of program. This will Open the Effects palette. Click the Texture tab to Activate the Pattern Library.

Now, click the Downward triangle next to the Preview window to Open the Pattern Library. Select the pattern named Herringbone 2, then press Enter on the keyboard to close palette.
(If the library is different than the one shown, click the blue arrow at the Top Right and a pop-up menu will appear. Select Reset Brushes. A dialog box will appear, just click OK and the correct library will load.)

6.) Go to the work area and draw your word. (If it doesn't appear to your liking first time, you can Undo it by going to Edit > Step Backward and draw it again.)

7.) Next, go to Layer > Layer Style > Bevel and Emboss. The Layer Style palette will appear. Go with the default settings, now click the Texture tab on the Left.

Go to the Pattern window and click the Downward arrow to Open the Pattern Library. Select once again the pattern named Herringbone 2, then adjust Depth to +25.

Next, click the Drop Shadow tab. Adjust Opacity to 45%, then click the OK button to apply and close the Layer Style palette.

Now, that we have the Rope defined, we need to create the cels that will create the Animation. I've included a Action to Duplicate the necessary layers.

8.) Go to Window > Actions. When the Actions palette appears...click the triangle next to TA Actions to Open it's choices and Select Make 21 Layers. Now, click the Play Selection button to Duplicate layers, then close this palette.

9.) Go to the Layers palette and Alt+Click the Eye icon to the Background layer. This will turn Off visibility to All of the Type layers instantly! Click the Create a new layer button to generate a New blank layer. Now, click the First Type layer to Select.

10.) Select the Erasure tool . Carry the erasure over the work area and Right-Click to Open the Brush Library. Select the Hard Round 19 brush, then click Enter on the keyboard to close.
(If the library is different than the one shown, click the blue arrow at the Top Right and a pop-up menu will appear. Select Reset Brushes. A dialog box will appear, just click OK and the correct library will load.)

Erase All but a beginning portion on the First Type layer.

Click here to view the guide of All layers to be erased accordingly.

11.) In the Layers palette... click the Eye icon to this layer to turn Off visibility. Click the Next layer Up now to Select. Erase appropriately your next layer. Repeat process until all layers (cels) have been done.

Click the Background layer to Select, then click the Delete layer button to Delete. (We used the White background only for easier viewing purposes during creation.)

Turn Off All Eye icons except Layer 1. (Document window will be clear.) This sets Up the First Cel of the Animation.

We are now ready to move to ImageReady...
12.) Click on the Edit in ImageReady button . (Located at the bottom of the Tool palette.)

13.) Go to the Animation palette and click the blue arrow (located Top Right) and a pop-out menu will appear. Select Make Frames From layers.

All of the Layers will be added as Frames (Cels) creating the Animation.

14.) Go to Frame 23 and click the 0 at the Bottom to set Delay time to 2 Sec. (as shown above).

15.) Animation is now ready to play by hitting the play button. (For a more precise animation speed) click the Preview in Browser button , to view in a browser.

16.) Optimize and Save the file with File > Save Optimized As... Images Only (*.gif)
